1. What type of visa do I need to study in the USA?
Students need to apply for an F-1 visa to pursue academic studies at a university or college in the United States.
2. What are the main requirements for a U.S. student visa?
You must have an I-20 form from a SEVP-approved institution, pay the SEVIS fee, show financial support, and prove English proficiency (usually via IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo).
3. How long does the student visa process take?
It usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks after your interview, but it's best to start the process 3–4 months in advance.
4. Can I work on an F-1 student visa?
Yes, F-1 visa holders can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during school and full-time during holidays. Off-campus work requires special authorization.
5. Can I stay in the U.S. after graduation?
Yes, you can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) which allows you to work for up to 12 months (or 36 months for STEM graduates) after completing your degree.
